WESTMINSTER, MD -- Civil Air Patrol cadets from Group Two of the Maryland Wing paid tribute to our country's service members during the annual Memorial Day parade held in Westminster on May 30.
Cadets from the Carroll Composite Squadron and the Towson Composite Squadron marched up a crowded Main Street to the veteran's cemetery where there was a Memorial Day ceremony. At the cemetery, First Lt. Kevin McHale, commander of the Carroll Composite Squadron, laid a memorial wreath for the group.
The Westminster parade is the oldest continuous Memorial Day parade in the country. This was the 137th year for the parade, which was sponsored by the American Legion. The cadets were joined in the parade by marching bands, military, and youth organizations, along with many veterans who served in wars since World War II.
Civil Air Patrol, the official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, is a civilian, volunteer, nonprofit, service organization. CAP's cadet programs provide young men and women with a safe and motivating environment in which to grow and explore opportunities in the military and aviation industries. Cadets progress through a 16-step program of leadership and aerospace education.
The Carroll Composite Squadron meets Tuesday evenings at Westminster High School on Washington Road in Westminster. Prospective cadets, ages 12-18, and their parents are always welcome. More information can be found at www.carrollcap.org.
