McHale accepts command of Carroll squadron

WESTMINSTER, MD – First Lieutenant J. Kevin McHale, of Finksburg, accepted command of the Carroll Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol during the squadron's annual banquet on December 11, 2004. The banquet was held at West Middle School in Westminster.
    McHale, a member of CAP for two years, assumed command from Major Christian Ready, Carroll commander for the past six years. Ready, of Westminster, has accepted the position of Deputy Commander for Group Two in the Maryland Wing of CAP.
    The change of command ceremony was presided over by Colonel Kay Joslin Walling, Commander of the Maryland Wing, and Lieutentant Colonel Gerald Weiss, Group Two Commander. Cadet Captain Rachel Gibbs, Cadet Commander at Carroll, also participated in the ceremony which involved the transfer of the squadron guidon from Ready to McHale.
    The Carroll Composite Squadron is the second largest squadron in the Maryland Wing, consisting of over 80 cadet and senior members. The squadron was recently named the Maryland Wing 2004 Squadron of the Year.
    McHale, an 18 year resident of Carroll County, is married and the father of two children. He is employed with United Parcel Service as a Senior Business Systems Analyst.
    Civil Air Patrol, the official US Air Force Auxiliary, is a civilian, volunteer, nonprofit, service organization. Members perform more than 85 percent of inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue and Coordination Center. Volunteers also take a leading role in aerospace education and conduct one of America's finest youth programs through CAP Cadet Programs. Cadets, ages12-21, progress through a 16-step program of leadership development and aerospace education.
    The Carroll Composite Squadron meets on Tuesday evenings at the US Army Reserve Center on Malcolm Drive in Westminster.   Prospective members are always welcome. Additional information may be found at www.carrollcap.org.
