Nine Cadets graduate CAP Basic Training

WESTMINSTER, MD Nine cadets from the Carroll Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol graduated Cadet Basic Training on November 23, 2004. The graduation was held at the US Army Reserve Center in Westminster. Major Christian Ready, Commander of the Carroll Composite Squadron, presided over the ceremony, assisted by 1st Lt. Tom Reed, Deputy Commander for Cadets, and Cadet Captain Rachel Gibbs, Cadet Commander. Graduates include Cadet Basics Temma Clark-Braverman, Michael DiGiacomo, Charles Gnau, Wesley Howard, William Kelch, Daniel Kemmer, Nicholaus Minkowski, Kaitlin O'Mara, and Alex Schiller. The Cadet Basic Training course was taught by Cadet Technical Sergeant Chiara Burgan and Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Zach Bowen. New recruits are required to attend the squadron's two-month training course. This course teaches the cadets the basics of military drill, customs and courtesies, and CAP history. Cadets also participate in moral leadership discussions and physical training. Cadets who successfully complete the course earn their Curry ribbon and are promoted to the rank of Cadet Airman. Civil Air Patrol, the official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, is a civilian, volunteer, nonprofit, service organization. CAP's cadet programs provide young men and women, ages 12-18, with a safe and motivating environment in which to grow and explore opportunities in the military and aviation industries. The local Carroll Composite Squadron meets Tuesday evenings at the U.S. Army Reserve Center on Malcolm Drive in Westminster. Prospective cadets and their parents are always welcome.
