Zaykoski named Maryland Wing Cadet NCO of the Year

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Cadet chief master sergeant Zachary Zaykoski, 17, was named Cadet Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for Civil Air Patrols Maryland Wing during the wings annual conference in Annapolis on November 11.
        Zaykoski was chosen from more than 600 cadets state-wide for this honor. He has been a member of the Carroll Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol for almost 2 ½ years, where he is currently serves as first sergeant.
        He is a member of the emergency services ground team and is a graduate of the 2005 Tri-Wing Encampment, held annually in Reisterstown. This past summer he attended the National Powered Flight Academy in Oklahoma. During this national CAP activity, Zaykoski was the second in his class to solo in a Cessna 172 aircraft.
        A resident of Hampstead, Zaykoski is a senior at North Carroll High School. He is employed at Ridge Engineering and is also a firefighter cadet at Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department.
        Civil Air Patrol, the official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, is a civilian, volunteer, nonprofit, service organization. CAP's cadet programs provide young men and women with a safe and motivating environment in which to grow and explore opportunities in the military and aviation industries. Cadets progress through a 16-step program of leadership and aerospace education.
        The Carroll Composite Squadron meets on Tuesday evenings at the National Guard Armory on Hahn Road in Westminster. Prospective cadets, age 12-18, and their parents are always welcome along with adults interested in joining. More information can be found on the squadron website, www.carrollcap.org.
